Missed hamate fractures

There have been two cases of missed hamate fractures discussed recently at the xray meeting, which are worth sharing.
Remember! The xray meeting is open to all staff. It takes place every Tuesday morning at 0830. If you aren't sure where to go please ask the clinic consultant, who attends every week.

A reminder of the anatomy:

Patient 1
​Radiographer report suggests ? hamate fracture
Treated by ED as wrist sprain
Reported by radiologist and picked up in results session 5 days later – brought back to Fracture clinic.

Patient 2
FOOSH, tender ASB, scaphoid views performed

This was missed in ED and on initial radiology report, but spotted on consultant review.
